Software for Small Organizations
Fundraising software for nonprofit organizations has been available for over 30 years. Over the years new products have come into the market, and many have disappeared or been consolidated with their competitors. The majority of systems now available focus on mid-size to large organizations. These products include many sophisticated features and, as a result, generally require extensive training, access to technical support, and frequent upgrades. In return, they offer organizations the kind of solid support of their fundraising efforts that is necessary to sustain growth.
What is surprising is the dearth of products to serve the small nonprofit – those with an annual budget below $500,000. After all, this group constitutes the vast majority of nonprofit organizations and represents a major opportunity for impact in this market. These nonprofits require not just an affordable option, but one that is easily understandable with little training while still able to perform the necessary functions.
Of the few products out there targeted at this group, most are strictly web based. While this is acceptable to some, many organizations are nervous about exposing their donors’ giving histories and other information to the risk of hackers, as unlikely as this may be.
